The materials we use throughout our line tell the story behind our simple & unique designs. We carefully choose materials for their natural beauty, earth-friendly footprint and durability.
Natural PLant Dyes
We love everything about vintage textiles. Handwoven West African cotton textiles are artfully created using natural plant dyes and ancient time-honored traditions. These fabrics are one of a kind and have a rich history of family, culture and symbolism. Many of these mud cloths have some age and require careful washing and repair in some cases. We work with these pieces of art in order to re-purpose them as unique accessories for your pet. We hope you will admire these these vintage fabrics, as we do, with their imperfections as part of their story.
Waxed Canvas Fabrics
Natural cotton and linen canvas are sturdy materials. Adding a protective coating of natural bees wax adds to the beauty and durability of these lovely fabrics. Our canvas is hand waxed in the USA with a portion of proceeds donated to bee health research and pollination efforts. Our waxed fabric collars and leashes can be re-waxed to replenish water resistance and prolong wear for years to come.
A really Cute Bee
Cork Oak Tree
Cork is not only beautiful, it’s sustainable. Harvesting cork actually reduces greenhouse gasses. Cork oak trees are not cut down for harvest, the bark is removed every 9-12 years and as it grows back the tree absorbs 3-5 times more carbon dioxide than non-harvested trees. Cork oaks live for about 300 years so one tree can produce cork for several generations. Cork strapping accents appear on our waxed canvas buckle collars and leashes as a animal friendly alternative to leather. We also use cork labels on select products including our stonewashed linen bandanas.
Organic hemp webbing is used throughout our line to promote a more sustainable world. Hemp products can be recycled, reused and are 100% biodegradable. Hemp is a strong durable fiber with antimicrobial properties which makes it a great alternative to synthetic fiber. Commercially grown hemp is considered one of the most eco-friendly crops for its lower water usage, carbon dioxide reduction and its ability to heal polluted soils.
Linen is made from 100% natural flax fiber and is one of the oldest textiles in the world. Linen is strong, breathable and cool to the touch because it absorbs moisture and dries quickly. It becomes softer over time and is known to have a soothing and calming effect. As if that weren’t enough, linen is also static resistant, hypoallergenic and eco-friendly.
